The astounding popularity of the Bratz dolls line prompted the diversification of the brand into other popular modes of entertainment. The first video game featuring the characters received a decent response and was a commercial success as well.

Thus, a full-fledged movie venture based on the fashionable dolls was not a surprise.

The initial announcement of the project was done on the 15th of May 2006 by the collaboration of, Avi Arad Productions, Crystal Sky Pictures and the original creators of the product, MGA entertainment. Crystal Sky Pictures financed the film.

The story revolves around four friends Yasmin, Sasha, Cloe and Jade who are about to begin high school; though excited about the new phase that is about to begin in their lives, the four best friends are a little circumspect about wht is in store for them in their new lives. All the girls are quite confident that they would excel.

The head girl of their school, Meredith Baxter Dimly, wants all the students to belong to a specific clique (group) and attempts to organize the girls in separate ways. She is seen to be jealous of the independent spirit of the girls and attempts to destroy their friendship. Each of the girls has a separate special interest and talent, and each become a member of a different interest group which results in them drifting apart from each other.

The movie continues to follow the various adventures that the girls have, including a reunion of the four friends, who vow to stay together. Inevitably, the movie has a happy ending, with the vanquishing of the villainous head girl, and the happy reunion of the victorious friends.

This cliched high school movie met with very negative responses from most reviewers although it did decently in the box office.
