It could be said that white people have held down black people in the US, but if you ask that question today, well, I'd have to disagree. Not long ago, I was discussing this with an acquaintance and I asked back their own question in a rhetorical way; White people holding down black people? Well, not anymore. Look at all the wealthy, high ranking corporate executives, military leaders, entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, actors, etc, etc, who just happen to be black? Joint Chief of Staff, State Dept, and now the President too - so really what are you talking about - we have a Black President?
Not sure what he wants at this point, maybe he wanted a Black Pope? We almost had a black pope too, as I recall, if this Pope Benedict didn't get smoke of approval from the voting chambers of all those Bishops. Had they not voted in Pope Benedict, well we may have had a Black Pope today, I am certain we will within the next 3 picks for pope?
No one in the US has anything anymore to complain about. If you are an American, you have opportunity everywhere all around you, what you CHOOSE to do with that is your decision, not mine. I wish All Americans regardless of race, religion, or color all the best, and continued success. This is a great nation, because our ancestors, and all that came before us; Black or White made it so. Let's celebrate their hard work in building this great nation.
Okay so, if someone feels offended that their ancestors were once slaves, I find this problematic as most of our ancestors were "subjects" under a king, ruler, emperor, dictator, madman, or other at one point in our genetic lines. So, I guess, I feel offended when someone claims Slavery is my fault because I happen to be white, and really it isn't my fault, as my ancestors fought against their own family in the civil war, and thankfully the outcome created a positive action which not only kept this great nation together, but also righted a wrong and freed the slaves. I'd say that's a good thing wouldn't you?
You know, maybe Eric Holder was correct when he said; "though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards." I realized he said this remark off the cuff when hurried by reporters, but maybe that slip of speech is exactly what needed to be said - even if it offends people. Maybe we might all learn something here? Please consider all this.
