Weight loss is trying for many, myself included. You can try every fad diet that comes down the pike to your heart's content, but you're at the mercy of your genes for better or for worse. So what does it take to succeed? You're correct if you say things like willpower and exercise. As with anything new or stressful, make sure to contact your doctor before partaking.
Everyone really knows this material, but we're so often bombarded by slick advertising that many people think they only thing to do is throw money at the problem. In reality, the lasting change on the outside will come only from within yourself.
You have to want it. And you have to want it more than you want to sit and eat and be generally sedentary. Again, this is all information you know from grade school.
So how can you make it a bit easier? Progressive Resistance is the answer for many. I've lifted weights in the past as I do now, and have the vertebral disc damage to prove it. Those who are really into this activity are sometimes known as Gym Rats. There's a good reason for that as they spend most every waking hour in their local gym.
But you don't have to do that. You can life weights once or twice a week and gain muscle. This is what Progressive Resistance is all about. Pick some exercises you feel comfortable doing, maybe just three and remember to work with what you have. This means you don't need weights- just use gallon jugs filled with water or your own body weight.
As an example, do some pushups and record how many you can do. These repetitions will be your absolute maximum effort to fully exhaust the muscle. Start from your knees if you have to, or just lower yourself as slowly as possible if you can't do any pushups.
Do two sets in this fashion. You'll notice you are weaker on your second set and this is because you've already partially exhausted the muscle. If you get 7 repetitions, try for 10 next time. If you take 9 seconds to lower yourself on pushups, then try to hold yourself up for 12 seconds the next time.
Give yourself about 4 days between doing the exercises in the mini workout and allowing your body to recover to go again. If you have made progress since your last mini workout then you are getting stronger. This happens because muscle adapts to progressive loads. What's so great about that?
Well, muscle eats calories and the more you have, the more you will have extra calories burned away. If you're concerned about becoming muscle bound or are a woman not interested in building big muscles, don't fret. This isn't a lot of exercise and won't make you Adonis overnight.
Since muscle outweighs fat, you may not see a change in the number on your scale, but your clothes will fit better and you'll have a glow about you because you'll feel so much better. Good luck to you and I hope you find that Progressive Resistance provides you with a weight loss advantage.
