Weight Loss - Who Cares?
So, you've put on a few pounds over the last few years. Who cares? That's all happened to us, even those of us who had frequented the gym in Birmingham. There's ten tons of stuff out there that involves losing weight. There are diet programs, exercise equipment, aerobic stuff, pills, DVD's, etc., etc., etc. It's just a big, fat old money making scheme by all of those folks in the industry, right? It's not that big of a problem, plus there's probably not much that you can do about it, anyway, so you say.
That may be an exaggeration, but even if you buy into a little of that, then you need to really understand the risks involved with obesity and carrying extra weight. It is important to get a feel for the reasons behind managing your weight and getting it under control. There are many benefits to losing weight, especially if you incorporate going back to the gym in Birmingham.
Losing ten to fifteen pounds can go a long for many of us in terms of improving our health. For many of us, that extra weight loss can be a significant help. There is a growing risk of type two diabetes in much of the population. We can shed some pounds to help in that fight, since a majority of those who end up having that form of diabetes tend to be overweight. Losing weight helps to improve blood sugar levels and improve their blood pressure. For those who are overweight, losing 10% of your weight can greatly increase health benefits.
In addition, individuals who have undergone about two to three weeks of regular exercise and have established a pattern of healthy eating report an increase in energy, better sleep and have an improved self outlook. What generally happens, then, is that these results provided motivation to continue on in the journey of regular exercise and healthy eating. It is only natural that what you see after your trips to the gym in Birmingham and improvement in your nutrition are doing for you, that you will continue in those same behaviors.
Arthritis has also been linked with weight gain. The extra strain your joints take on when supporting a heavier than normal work load can lead to arthritis and joint problems. Many who have experienced joint problems, especially in the knees, feet and ankles have experienced relief when undergoing weight loss. The trick here is to try and undertake some low impact aerobics when at the gym in Birmingham, as part of your exercise routine. This will help take stress away from the joints while still benefitting from a good exercise program.
Generally, more fat in our middles can lead to various health challenges, like heart disease. How can you tell if you need to take a little from that spare tire? Measure your waist circumference. For women, a circumference more than 35 inches can be problematic. For men, it is 40 inches or more than can give them trouble.
To answer our title question above - Who Cares? Well, you should, I should, and we all should care about maintaining a proper weight by eating right and regular exercise. Remember, even losing a few pounds can lead to positive outcomes.
