Walking Exercises

Keep your exercise log in a place that you can get to easily and without thinking about it too much. If your woman you may want to carry in your purse, or for a man in your briefcase. You may want to keep it near your family calendar for example. Wherever you put your log try to keep it somewhere where you will see it often and you will be inspired to write into right and it. Even though you do write in it always return it to the same high profile place that you found for it and keep it there so you know where it is.

Create a system that will not be too complicated and easy for you to maintain. Come up with a system that works for you include things like where you walked, how you felt after the walk, how long you walked, and how far you walked, if you are using it as some form of tracking your mileage. Try to make it easy for you to calculate your weekly mileage. Come up with a format that works for you and be consistent with that format. Always use the same format every time you write in your exercise log or your walking log.

Try not to spend too much time working on your log otherwise you will become discouraged and you will not feel like writing it so keep it to a minimum. If you just have basic information like where you walked, how far, and how you felt after the walk you will still have a way to track your progress and to measure how well you're doing over time, and that's what's important here.

Have a toll of your overall mileage. This mileage total will help you understand just how far you have walked over any period of time. You might want to total it up weekly monthly and every quarter to see how and the miles you've walked during that period. If you're not wearing a pedometer just come up with that an estimate of how far you walk each day when you write in your log if you track your weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly totals you'll get a real good comparison from week to week as to how far you walked. This can keep you motivated.

Take time to review your log regularly. As you spend time tracking your walking and your total mileage and your experience with walking spend some time looking through your log every month, or at least every two or three months see if you can notice any patterns. Notice if there are certain places you walk that help keep you better motivated or if there was certain types of food or something you did before you walked that slowed you down. Also make sure to check for any type of physical problems that might come up such as knee pains or ankle or foot pains, cramps or sprains. Relate those to any gear problems such as your shoes and you will get a real good idea if it's time for new shoes or not. Best of all you'll have a great way to track your progress, set goals, and achieve them and you will get a good understanding of how your exercise schedule and goals are making you feel in general.

"Those familiar with the music of Dan Schutte are in for a great treat here. As in his music, he deals with themes of longing and desire for God, the hungers of the human heart, unfulfilled human hopes and dreams, and the profound happiness of finding ones home in God. The exercises here are loosely based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, and the goal is the same for both: to draw readers into a personal, living, growing relationship with Jesus Christ."

A new approach to using walking to heal emotional trauma and bring forth optimal mental functioning B?" Explores why and how we carry emotional wounds, and how they can be healed and resolved B?" Shows how walking stimulates both sides of the brain to promote and restore mental health B?" Provides simple, yet potent, mental exercises to use while walking Our bodies usually heal rapidly from an illness, injury, or wound. Yet our minds and hearts often suffer for years with debilitating symptoms of distress or upset. Why is it so hard for our minds and hearts to heal? The key to healing them is simple and can be just a short walk away.Walking--a bilateral therapy that has been a part of human life throughout history--allows people to heal emotionally as quickly as they do physically. Bilateral therapies engage both sides of the brain and unlock natural states of optimal function and creativity. Thom Hartmann examines how memory works and why emotional shock can resist normal healing. He found that the simple act of walking is effective in treating emotional disturbances ranging from temporary upsets and problems to chronic conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Case studies have shown dramatic results. Walking consciously, while holding a distress or desire in mind, can rapidly dissolve the rigidity of a traumatic memory or negative mind state, dispersing its unpleasant associations in as little as a half hour`s time. While walking has always been a natural part of life, its importance in promoting and maintaining mental health is only recently being rediscovered. Hartmann`s simple yet potent exercises allow us to create our own walking journeys to restore our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being as well as rejuvenate our body`s health.

Walking on Fire (Paperback)

In this bold new way of looking at dramatic structure, Jim Linnell establishes the central role of emotional experience in the conception, execution, and reception of plays. Walking on Fire: The Shaping Force of Emotion in Writing Drama examines dramatic texts through the lens of human behavior to identify the joining of event and emotion in a narrative, defined by Linnell as emotional form. Effectively building on philosophy, psychology, and critical theory in ways useful to both scholars and practitioners, Linnell unfolds the concept of emotional form as the key to understanding the central shaping force of drama. He highlights the Dionysian force of human emotion in the writer as the genesis for creative work and articulates its power to determine narrative outcomes and audience reaction. Walking on Fire contains writing exercises to open up playwrights to the emotional realities and challenges of their work. Additionally, each chapter offers case studies of traditional and nonlinear plays in the known canon that allow readers to evaluate the construction of these works and the authors’ practices and intentions through an xamination of the emotional form embedded in the central characters’ language, thoughts, and behaviors. The plays discussed include Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Athol Fugard’s “MASTER HAROLD”. . .and the boys, Donald Margulies’s The Loman Family Picnic, Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party, and Tony Kushner’s Angels in America. Walking on Fire opens up new conversations about content and emotion for writers and offers exciting answers to the questions of why we make drama and why we connect to it. Linnell’s userfriendly theory and passionate approach create a framework for understanding the links between the writer’s work in creating the
