Hello, my name is Michael, and I do a sport called MMA. MMA stands for mixed martial arts. MMA is not karate or Kung Fu. It is better than all those weak sports. I train almost everyday at a training facility called The Academy. MMA is probably my favorite sport in the whole world. I think everybody should do Youth MMA because it teaches hard work, and much more.
UFC is a fighting league where people from all around the world fight to be the champion. UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship. My three favorite fighters are Forrest Griffin,George St. Pierre, and Court Mcgee. Forrest Griffin was a police officer, but he retired when he got the offer to be in the UFC Forrest Griffin was awarded the best fight ever against Stephan Bonnar. His amateur record was 9-2. Nine wins two losses. He beat Rampage Jackson to earn the light heavyweight belt. He is one of the best fighters ever.
One of the best fighters is George St. Pierre. He is twenty nine years old. His professional record is 20-2 pretty good right. He is a very good wrestler. Wrestling is very important to MMA. He is very athletic and well rounded fighter. He is the champion is his weight class.
The reason I like this fighter is because he used to be my trainer at the Academy. He is a really nice guy. He got a chance to be in the UFC and he grabbed the chance to be the next Ultimate Fighter. His record is 11-2 pretty good. He fought against Kris Mcray an he won! He is going to be in the same weight class as GSP. That is going to be exciting to see if he could fight him.
These are some of my favorite fighters in the whole world. I hope you think that these are some of your favorite fighters too! See ya later until my next article. The UFC is so cool. I hope this is a helpful article to everybody

No Holds Barred: Ultimate Fighting and the Martial Arts Revolution $3.95 On November 12, 1993, eight men met in Denver, Colorado, to decide who was the greatest fighter in the world. They fought one-against-one in an octagonal cage where they could punch, kick, knee, elbow, head butt and choke. "There are no rules " proclaimed the organizers. The Ultimate Fighting Championship was born-and the mystique of traditional martial arts had died. For thousands of years, the fighting arts had been shrouded in mystery and deceit. Secrets were jealously guarded, while blood-curdling claims were made of lethal techniques and even supernatural powers. Each style or system asserted that it was the best, its masters unbeatable. By matching experts in different arts against each other, the Ultimate Fighting Championship exploded many of these myths. Black belts and flashy moves proved no match for the skill and technique of a new breed of athletic warrior. In just over a decade, no-holds-barred fighting-otherwise known as mixed martial arts-has gone from a novelty spectacle to a worldwide sport. It has produced its own superstars like the Gracie family, Ken and Frank Shamrock, Maurice Smith and Randy Couture. It has also attracted massive condemnation from the media and run the gauntlet of police raids and banning orders. Its critics labeled it "human cockfighting." It was pursued from state to state, excoriated by campaigners and banned by politicians. Through it all, the sport has continued to thrive, spreading across the globe. Author and journalist Clyde Gentry has interviewed more than 100 key figures to produce the definitive account of the world's most controversial and misunderstood sport and of the fighting men who dare to enter the octagon. |

Me, Chi, and Bruce Lee: Adventures in Martial Arts from the Shaolin Temple to the Ultimate Fighting Championship $17.41 What happens when a self-styled wuss sets out to earn a black belt? Why have Eastern martial arts become so popular worldwide? Is the Ultimate Fighting Championship a beautiful fusion of East-meets-West martial technique, or shameless commercialization? These questions and more find answers in "Me, Chi, and Bruce Lee, "a rollicking journey through the world of modern martial arts. Author Brian Preston's trek takes him from a kung fu school in his hometown of Victoria, Canada, to the storied Shaolin Temple in China, back to Canada to meet Brazilian Jujitsu legend Royce Gracie, and on to Vegas and the thrills of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Along the way, Preston discovers a vast array of martial arts practices, theories, and controversies--when he's not too busy getting a beat-down from a 60-year-old woman. Mastering Sambo for Mixed Martial Arts $19.81 The founders of Russian sambo sifted through all of the worldas martial arts, including judo and jiujitsu, to get the most combat-effective techniques available. Each technique was carefully dissected and considered for its merits in achieving samboas ultimate goal: to stop an armed or unarmed adversary in the least time possible. In this book, author Scott Sonnon traces the development of the four types of sambo (self-defense, sport-wrestling, combat sambo and Spetsnaz) and then focuses on samboas mixed martial arts applications. Here he reveals the signature asaddlea techniques that have made him one of the most respected leg-lock coaches in the world. With 101 step-by-step moves a including entries, sweeps, passes, recounters and a host of submissions a this series is a must for all MMA competitors searching for an edge over the competition. Sambo prides itself on fast-wrestling, with only 60 seconds of groundfighting permitted. In mixed martial arts, however, these locks only work 20 percent of the time and aren't worth sacrificing quality position. As a result, Sonnon modified traditional sambo to become a alower-halfa positional approach so that fighters could both strike and defend against strikes, maintain positional dominance and easily transition from one submission to the next in a chess-like fashion, as Brazilian Jiujitsu has become known for in the aupper-halfa game. Now you too can learn these winning strategies from one of the best sambo instructors in the world. |
