There are certain exercises that I can't get enough of. One of them is close leg squats.
Why are they awesome?
1. They place extra focus on toning and shaping the bum. The close leg stance develops a smaller, tighter tush, oppose to wide leg squats, which tend to build a wider, more musclebound behind, with a quadricep focus. This exercise is fantastic for a summer routine. It will suit anybody wanting a beach body look!
2. The close leg stance requires much more balance. This activates the core stabilizers, giving your abs and core a killer workout!
Instruction for Close Leg Squats
-Similar to a normal squat place all weight on your heels, and stick your bum back as far as possible. Unlike a basic squat your feet are very close together. Start with a few inches between the inside of your feet. As balance improves you can bring feet completely together so that inner ankles touch.
-At first hold on to a wall, banister or place your arms out for balance. Keep abs tight and pulled in toward your spine, as you lower into a seated position. When form improves, add weight.
-On the rise squeeze your glutes together to assist the ascent. This is the crucial ingredient! SQUEEZE THOSE GLUTES!
-Keep your back straight throughout the exercise, your eyes up, and your chest lifted.
Yoga enthusiasts will recognize this one as chair pose, but even if you're used to holding the position, trying the exercise with pulsing/reps will add a new dimension to this challenging exercise
To try close leg squats with pulsing reps, come down into midway/seated position (you can even raise arms overhead) and pulse by coming only a quarter back to standing and then dropping down again. If you can make it to 20 pulses, good job, it's tough!
