It all started with Russell, a full-time inventor in Colorado. As an inventor, Russell loved to think up of new products and inventions. While Russell was out running one time, he came to think about the biomechanics of the feet. There were many questions that raced through his mind. As he ran barefoot across a grassy median, he monitored how his feet struck the soft ground and sometimes seeing how they respond to hard surfaces too.

His musings brought him to invent a pillowy exercise device designed to strengthen the lower legs that he displayed at a running expo in San Francisco about 15 years ago. It was there that he met a fellow runner whom he shared his ideas with for new shoes.

She encouraged him to meet her friend, Abshire, who was an orthotics provider. When Abshire saw Russell's innovative design, he was so convinced and ecstatic about the possibility that he convinced the landlord of his orthotics shop, Lee, to make a simple, one-time investment. Their intention was to make a bit of money by selling the technology to Nike, Adidas or some other big shoe company. But things did not work out as planned. No one wanted their ground-breaking shoe technology.

Believing that they had a goldmine, they determinedly pursued their goal to make their endeavor a success. Despite the fact that they had no product development and marketing expertise, Jerry Lee and Danny Abshire bought out the rights and ownership from Russell and started to build a successful boutique and niche product. They named their company Newton Running.

They decided to enter the industry with the most expensive shoes on the market and started by telling the people that they run wrong. Three years later, Newton Running Shoes has grown fairly popular among runners in spite of its dollar value. Up until now, Newton Running Shoes is still growing pretty rapidly in popularity. It has successfully made a name for itself and is the leader in barefoot running shoes.
