After work relaxation is especially important for healthcare workers. Taking 10 - 20 minutes after work each day to remove uniform scrubs, kick off the nursing shoes and settle into a relaxation practice is highly beneficial. Once the basics of relaxation techniques are learned it is easy to slip into a calming state.
There is no set relaxation technique that is best. Some examples of the most popular techniques are: meditation, visualization, deep breathing, self-massage, music therapy, aromatherapy, snuggling with a pet, yoga or a simple cup of hot tea. It is important to choose a relaxation method that fits personality, lifestyle and fitness level. Some people need time alone after a long day at work.
