I became an addict of Final Fantasy game play when a friend I knew introduced me to it back in 1991. Through the years, the worlds and characters have become more advanced and unique, causing the addiction that I have to continue.
Eventually, I heard that there were some replica objects, weapons and other paraphernalia that were being produced that were based on various characters and objects found in the game itself. One of the weapons that I coveted was my favorite sword that is featured in this game. You might already be familiar with the model, a 67.5 inch, Final Fantasy Full Tang Nodachi sword.
A New Quest
After being immersed in the game world for so long, it was fun to have a new quest to go on, one that took me through the real world in search of the Tang Nodachi sword. At first, people I talked to about the 67.5 inch Final Fantasy Full Tang Nodachi sword looked at me as if I were simply crazy. There were some people I met who loved Japanese art work and other historical artifacts from that Asian country and at first they thought that I was talking about an ancient sword that they had never heard of before.
When they found out that it was a replica from the Final Fantasy game, they usually just shook their head with a pitying smile, although some gave a disgusted snort and walked away. If only they could have given the idea a moment they would have realized that these fantastic swords are true works of art in their own right.
I figured that every quest has a rough beginning, and that persecution was to be expected along the way. It only served to make my quest for the 67.5 inch Final Fantasy Full Tang Nodachi sword that much more interesting. I decided to take my quest online, searching through websites that were devoted to Final Fantasy discussions. It was while I was on one of these gaming sites that I found my answers and began to sort through my options in Full Tang Nodachi swords.
Common Features
In my search, I found that there were some common features to be found in these swords, which were known in some circles as No-Dachi swords. All of the swords had a braided wrap around it, usually with black and red in the design. Some were hand braided while others were done by machine. There were also some swords that had an additional color thrown into the black and red scheme, such as some bright yellow in the form of tassels that hang off the end of the handle.
The blade of the sword is slightly curved, which is what attracted me to that sword in the game world. I liked the elegant flair that the sword provided, plus the 38 inch blade was longer than most swords, which also added to its lethal usage in the game. In real life, the blade of the sword was just as elegant and lethal, being made of stainless steel for strength and longevity.
After looking at my different options, I knew that I just had to have one to hang in my bedroom with my other Final Fantasy trifles. The 67.5 inch Final Fantasy Full Tang Nodachi sword was definitely meant to be my crowning triumph, drawing my weapons and gaming collection to completion (at least for now).

Vance reveals the reality of a secret American military force fighting in Vietnam during that conflict. He discloses his unorthodox recruitment. He discusses his exhaustive training. He details his covert deployment to Vietnam. "I rocked backward and could feel the hand gun on my right hip coming out of its holster. I left my knife in the victim and went for my left sidearm. The Vietcong was aiming at me with my gun at point-blank range. He pulled the trigger." How did he survive? Two years of fighting in the jungles of Vietnam and beyond, the author recounts a few of his adventures during that conflict. What happens after he leaves The Sword? The Black Coats: The Sword-Swallower $27.73 1866. After the disappearance of their master, Colonel Bozzo-Corona, fourteen years earlier, the Black Coats are a mere travesty of their former selves. Taking advantage of the situation, young Saladin, nicknamed the "Sword-Swallower," the son of Similor, a gang member, now the wily Marquis de Rosenthal, steps into the void and becomes the new Godfather. His ambitious plan to restore the once-powerful criminal empire to its invicible criminal glory consists of stealing the fortune of young Justine, kidnapped as a baby and turned into a rope-dancer with the name of Mademoiselle Saphir. Justine, in reality the daughter of the wealthy Justin de Vibraye, is also desired by the evil Duc de Chaves, a deadly adversary for the Sword-Swallower...Written third, but chronologically last in the series, The Sword-Swallower (1867) was intended by Paul F val to be the final tale in the criminal saga of the Black Coats. "It is a unique work, which might arguably benefit from being read in isolation, without any reference to its companions," notes Brian Stableford. |

The Flaming Sword $30 " Thomas Dixon is perhaps best known as the author of the best-selling early twentieth-century Klan trilogy that included the novel The Clansman (1905), which provided the core narrative for D.W. Griffith's groundbreaking and still controversial film The Birth of a Nation (1915). In his twenty-eighth and last novel, The Flaming Sword (1939), Dixon takes to task his long-standing black critics, especially W.E.B. DuBois, by attacking what he considered to be a vast conspiracy by blacks and Communists to destroy America. A new introduction and detailed notes by John David Smith offer a valuable historical and critical perspective on this important and divisive classic of American literature. Thomas Dixon (1864-1946) was born in Shelby, North Carolina. He is the author of The Clansman and The Sins of the Father. |

The Craft of the Japanese Sword $38.74 Well over a thousand years old, the tradition of swordmaking in Japan is one of the most highly regarded metal crafts in the world. When all sword manufacture was prohibited in Japan for seven years after World War II, the age-old techniques were in danger of being lost forever. Today, in the hands of a new generation of practitioners, the craft is making a startling comeback. Connoisseurs say that the swords being produced now are the equal of anything made in Japan in the past few hundred years. This book takes the reader into the workshops of four of Japan's leading sword craftsmen. Each craftsman has a different role in the manufacture of a blade. Yoshindo Yoshihara, the swordsmith, begins with raw steel made in a traditional charcoal-fueled smelter and refines it by folding and forging, gradually shaping it into a sword with a hardened edge. Okisato Fujishiro then sharpens and polishes the sword with fine stones to reveal the color and texture of the steel. Metalworker Hiroshi Miyajima makes the small copper-and-gold habaki collar that fits between the blade and the scabbard. Finally, Kazuyuki Takayama carves the hilt and the scabbard out of a single piece of wood. Black-and-white photographs show every stage of the manufacture, while important information on history, metallurgy, and modern-day appraisal is presented in an extensive introduction. The swords made in Japan today are not, of course, intended for actual use. But their design, the quality of their steel, and the techniques used to create them still derive from the sword's historical function as a lethal hand-held weapon. A sword must be razor sharp, light, well balanced, and strong, but not so brittle it will break. In the perfect resolution of these qualities lie the beauty of the blade and the challenge of the craft. This book demonstrates how brilliantly Japan's sword craftsmen today have met this technological challenge. The impulse of the craft now is to preserve the utilitarian object and yet create an enduring art for the modern age. While many fine books on sword appreciation exist, these deal primarily with older blades or problems of appraisal. The Craft of the Japanese Sword is the first book in English devoted entirely to contemporary sword manufacture, and will thus be of enormous value to metal artists everywhere, as well as to collectors and students of weaponry. |

The Japanese Sword: A Comprehensive Guide $34.03 The Japanese sword combines unbreakability, rigidity, and lethal cutting power, and it is in the resolution of these conflicting practical requirements that it emerges as a triumph of the forger's art. The mystique of the sword lingers on in our age of mechanized combat, but the aesthetic qualities for which swords are most valued by collectors today-the liveliness of the metal "skin," the confidence in every aspect of the design, the scrolling temper-line, the almost buoyant lightness of the hilt when the blade is held in the hand-all derive from what the Japanese sword demanded as a symbol of strength and as a weapon. As an instrument of clear persuasion, no other blade anywhere has ever been its equal. This volume, containing color and black-and-white plates, has been prepared as an introduction to the history and appreciation of the Japanese sword. Its author, until his death in 1978, was one of Japan's foremost sword experts, and his wide knowledge is here brought to bear on every aspect of sword lore, including forging techniques and problems of appraisal. Looking over the 1,500 years of sword history in Japan, Kanzan Sato notes how the major developments-the shift from the early straight blades to the tachi, which were longer curved blades slung edge downwards at the waist, to the familiar daisho pair of short and long swords worn by samurai until modern times-were the result of both technical innovation and changed fighting techniques. He examines the various fashions in sword mounts and the at times precious, highly decorated work of the smiths who specialized in sword guards, or tsuba, during the Momoyama and Edo periods. The centerpiece of this book, however, is a detailed examination of over a dozen of Japan's most revered blades, including the Kanehira and the Dojigiri by Yasutsuna, perhaps the two finest swords in Japan and as clear and beautiful today as when they were forged some 900 years ago. The discussion of what makes these blades special and how they have been passed down for generations offers the reader a wealth of insight into the sword in Japan as heirloom and cultural treasure. |
