It does not mean that you cannot do abdominal exercises if you are pregnant. In fact, exercising is healthy for expectant mothers as long as they know how to execute it properly. Learning the basic steps in exercising properly during pregnancy is a must for every expectant mother. Many people believe that there are risks involved in pregnant women doing exercises over their abdominal area. However, the risks are not that high unless they overdo it within the same month of their due date.
One of the safest and most common abdominal exercises during pregnancy is the Standing Pelvic Tilt. To begin this exercise, you must stand with your back against the wall. Your head, buttocks, and shoulder heel must touch the wall. Your heel should be around 12-18 inches from the wall, and your knees should be slightly bent. Afterwards, contract your abdominal muscles while you are pulling your stomach inward and pushing your pelvis outward. For 5 seconds, hold this position, and then repeat the exercise 8-10 times.
The Side Crunch exercise is one of the most basic abdominal exercises that you could also try. The first thing that you should do is to lie on your right side and keep your right leg slightly bent while extending your arm slightly in front to support your body. Your left hand should be put behind your head. Then, slowly bend your right knee. In order to meet it, try to bring your left elbow and head in. You may do this exercise pattern for around 25 times per side.
Most of the abdominal exercises that you must do during pregnancy should not be heavy routines. However, if you are wondering if you could also do an advance exercise, the answer is yes, you definitely could. In fact, you could also do an Advance Side Crunch exercise. The Advance Side Crunch exercise is also very similar to the basic steps mentioned earlier in the previous paragraph. However, the only difference is that you need to raise your feet, head and left elbow as high as you can.
