When deciding on a mixer you have to consider space and usage. A Kitchenaid stand mixer takes up more room than the hand mixer. Depending on your cooking style you may find you need a stand mixer, a hand mixer, or both. The two are not interchangeable, meaning their strengths are not the same.
Benefits of a Stand Mixer

If you do a large amount of holiday cooking or prepare home made meals twice a month, then you will want a stand mixer. It is best used if you can leave it on the counter, so if you have room a stand mixer is the right choice.
If you only cook for 1 or 2 people, then a hand mixer will probably suit you best. Hand mixers are easily stored away and can be retrieved as needed.
