When you are in midair, bring your knees towards your body until your thighs touch your stomach. Upon descent, release your legs outwards, keep your feet together, land and squat again ready for another jump. It is always good to do warm-ups before doing this exercise. Do the jumps on a soft area like on grass and not a hard area like concrete to prevent injury and stress on your legs. It is best to do this exercise only once a week since it is highly stressful to your legs.
Running is another way by which you can strengthen your legs. You can do your running exercises by jogging or sprinting, however, it has been found that running with resistance has proven more effective. There are two ways you can run with resistance. First is running with weight on your back and another is running while you are in a swimming pool. Both exercises have applied resistance due to weight and water. Because of this resistance, your muscles undergo a certain tension that will strengthen your leg muscles as well as helping you burn excess fat.
In the first kind of resistance running, you can run with a relatively weighty backpack on your back. Make sure it is safely secured on your back and be sure that the backpack does not freely swing from side to side. Letting it swing loosely may cause you a back injury. If you consistently take runs with a weighty back pack, this will definitely have an impressive effect on strengthening your legs. As for the pool running, it is basically straight forward. Any movement in water always comes out like slow motion because of the drag that the water creates. Constantly running in the pool will help you toughen up the muscles in your legs and give you a great and refreshing workout. Water exercises prove to be great in learning how to increase vertical jump height.
