Solid Dual Grip

The most latest in the row is the Sony HDR-XR500V camcorder launched in 2009. Although late, it has managed to reach the target its manufacturers had set. This model is decked with HDR-XR500 series. It is also known as a series with a pair of hard-disk-based AVCHD camcorders. This series integrates the dual firsts of built-in GPS and a new Exmor-R back-illuminated CMOS sensor.

Features

The SteadyShot image stabilization system is an added feature to other Sony products. In addition, the solid consumer-oriented feature set is definitely a winning combination. It has a touch screen LCD monitor which is almost automatic. It includes a 240-GB hard drive. This allows users to shoot for an uninterrupted time of 14.5 hours. And the most important thing is that it does not compromise in terms of quality. It has a megapixel Exmor-R CMO and two models in this series, identical except for the hard-disk size: the HDR-XR500V

It is bigger and heavier than most consumer camcorders and does not fit easily in loose jacket pockets. It has a depression above the hard drive that allows you to sink your back fingers into. This provides a great grip and a conformable hold while shooting. While shooting, if you want constantly zoon in and out, you will be happy to know that the zoom switch falls directly under your right ring finger; this position of the zoom button also allows you to push the small photo button to the corner, where it's difficult to feel.

Drawback

It is fairly high priced than the other contemporaries in the market. Although the buttons are well placed, the record button falls under the right thumb and the mode button. This makes it difficult while switching between video and stills. In fact the position is such that it's too high to reach with your thumb and too far back to reach with your forefinger.

Highlights

The big barreled lens at the front of the camcorder and manual dial gives it a cool appearance. The 3.2-inch display is a wonderful feature added by Sony as customer want larger viewing panel to see and shoot. This artistically designed camcorder is way above its competitors and the best option to choose from if you want style - albeit you will have to shell out a fortune.
