Aerobic exercises are physical activities that target and use the muscles of the body. It is also known as cardiovascular exercise or endurance exercise. A person engaged in this exercise has higher endurance to physical and strenuous activity compared to an inactive person.
Aerobic exercise increases the amount of oxygen that flows into the muscle fibers. It makes the muscles stronger as it usually uses the large muscles in a continuous motion. It also develops the heart, lungs, blood vessels and muscles to work proficiently. Even when you are resting, the efficient of these organs stays the same. In addition, it improves the sleeping pattern and minimizes stress, anxiety and depression. Walking, running, jumping rope, climbing stairs, dancing, swimming, cross-country skiing and riding a bike are considered as aerobic exercises.
Doing aerobic exercises daily can help you burn calories as well as maintain your weight. Furthermore, it decreases the amount of body fats whilst increases the amount of muscle fibers. People who are into aerobic exercises have lower risk to chronic health complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure and other health complications related to obesity and overweight.
To achieve optimal health, doctors usually advised the patients to engage in aerobic exercises for more than 30 minutes a day. However, you do not have to do it continuously. You can have three sessions, 10 minutes each. The effectiveness is the same as that of continuous 30 minutes aerobic. In addition, aerobic exercises that are cut partially are much easier to fit into your daily routine.
Endurance exercise should be practiced three to four times a week. Your goal is to keep your target heart rate at least 30 minutes per session. However, you cannot do it in your first session, so start slowly, set your goal for 5 minutes, and gradually increases it, as you feel a lot stronger.
The target heart rate is 50 to 80 percent of the top figure of heart rate based on age. This should be your heart rate goal. If your current heart rate is not found inside this range, change the intensity of your activity until it falls inside the suggested range. You can either increase or decrease the intensity of the exercise.
Nonetheless, do not forget to do stretching exercises for at least 5 minutes until your body warms up or cools down before and after your aerobic exercises. You can begin using muscles and joint stretching that targets the spine, arms and legs muscles. After that, move your body in a rhythmic and repetitive motion by walking, jogging or biking to increase your heart rate. This is essential to avoid muscles and joint injury.
