Main Katanas (samurai swords Japanese) are becoming very popular for martial arts enthusiasts and collectors. They have value for collectors in terms of investment and value for students of martial arts as a training tool. Many swords in hand are also displayed in homes and decorating businesses. Regardless of the reason you bought a sword in his hand a fact remains: if you want your sword to last you need to perform proper maintenance to prevent rust and oxidation. This article will focus on the proper way to disassemble and assemble your Katana for cleaning and maintenance.
It is important to note that most swords in hand or any sword a hand forged blade is probably very strong. Make sure the blade edge is never in a position where it could cause injury to you or someone else. If you need to manage the use of blade extreme caution and protective gloves at all times.
The dismantling of the sword:
Use the mekugi-Nuki (Brass hammer) to remove the mekugi (ankle) of the handle. The mekugi are traditionally made of bamboo and are tapered at one end. Make sure you consider the stakes to determine which end is tapered and delete accordingly. You want to push the ankle to the side (the smallest) through the tapered butt. You may need to use a rubber mallet or hammer to drive stakes.
Once you have removed the two pins, firmly grasp the handle with your left hand and hold the sword in an upright position with the blade upwards and the edge of your body. Then use your right hand to hit down on the left wrist loosen the grip. Be careful not to hit your wrist too hard because there is a chance that a blade with a taste for short distance could bounce completely off the handle and cause injury or damage the blade.
You may need to use a rubber mallet and gently tap on the tsuba (guard) if the handle is tightened or seems to be seized as silk. Make sure you pack the tsuba with a soft cloth or towel to protect it damage.
Once the blade is removed from the handle, you can also remove the tsuba (guard) and AGED (braces). You are now ready to clean your sword.
Once your Katana has been properly cleaned and oiled you can put the sword following the steps below.
Re-Assembly of the sword:
With the naked blade in a horizontal position in your left hand or on a table, carefully slide the habaki (neck of the blade) on the silk until it is tight against the mune and ha-machi-machi notches.
Then drag the first AGED (washer), then the tsuba (guard), then the second AGED (puck), and finally the tsuka (handle) return on silk.
Grasp the handle with your left hand hold the sword upright, making sure the edge is facing your body. Press on the end of the handle in an upward motion with your right hand until it is firmly set. You may need use a rubber mallet to get a tight fit, but be sure to wrap the handle with a rag to avoid damaging the kashira (Buttcap).
Finally, insert the two mekugi (ankle) in the handle for the tsuka to the blade. It is important to note that sardines are generally made of bamboo and easily can be, therefore, to ensure a secure fit and secure, it is recommended to install new plugs, rather than reuse the old ones.

Samurai Sword Chopstick Sets $12.99 Eating Asian food is probably one of our pastimes here at ThinkGeek. Right by the office, we have a friendly Japanese place with sushi and bento boxes, a Vietnamese place to get our pho on, two scrumptious vegetarian Indian buffets, and even a Thai place with a garden dining area lined in hot pepper plants. And even though Sheldon would yell at us for using chopsticks to eat our Thai food, we do it anyway. You know why? Because eating with chopsticks is FUN with a capital FUN. When we first saw these, we were like, "Oh cool! Chopsticks that look like samurai swords! WANT!" Then we looked a little closer and realized that they're modeled after the weapons of actual samurai. Allow us to introduce you: Maeda Toshimasu (better known as Maeda Keiji) fought with Uesugi's clan and was best known for breaking through enemy lines in the battle against the Mogami with only eight riders. If you're ever in Japan you can check out Keiji's armor at the Miyasaka Museum. Sanada Saemon-no-Suke Yukimura (Sanada Yukimura for short!) was an excellent military tactician, winning battles even if his forces were outnumbered. He was called "a hero who may appear once in a hundred years" and a "crimson demon of war." Date Masamune was known as the one-eyed dragon due to his outstanding tactical skills and (more notably) his missing eye. Masamune's army was instantly recognizable by their black armor and golden head gear. Fan of Japanese stuff, eating Asian food, or swords? Maybe like us, you can say heck yes to all three. Pick up a set of these chopsticks and make your next meal infinitely more badass.
