Exercise Swarmer $124.27 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Exercise Swarmer was a military exercise conducted in the spring of 1950 by the United States Air Force, United States Army and United States Navy in the southeastern part of the United States, headquartered at Fort Bragg in the state of North Carolina. Starting on April 24 and running through May 8, the exercise was intended to apply lessons learned during the Berlin Airlift to battlefield logistics, the exercise took place over ten days and involved over 60,000 personnel. Although the achievements of the airlift were initially considered disappointing as opposed to projections, by the time four days of the exercise had passed the results were considered to be the biggest step forwards since World War II by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. However, the United States Air Force determined that existing transport aircraft were inadequate for the cargo needs of the Army, General James Gavin calling for an increase in the supply of C119 cargo aircraft. Exercise for Your Muscle Type $9.99 Most exercise books offer a generic, one-size-fits-all approach to fitness, with the same workouts for everyone. Unfortunately, not everyone is alike. Each body possesses a unique combination of muscle fibers, and understanding one’s muscle makeup can have a huge impact on the success of an exercise program—a fact that, until now, has been largely ignored. The body has both fast-twitch and slow-twitch muscle fibers. Fast-twitch fibers are responsible for explosive, powerful movements—jumping, weight lifting, and so on. Slow-twitch fibers are used during endurance activities, such as walking and running. Exercise is more effective if it is based on an individual’s personal combination of muscle fibers. This book is useful for athletes, “weekend warriors,“ and those just starting an exercise program. Whether a reader is predominantly slow twitch, fast twitch, or a balance of the two, he or she will find the right exerciseprogram for his or her body type. With Exercise for Your Muscle Type, readers can: Use muscle makeup to achieve greater athletic success. Tailor workouts to address particular strengths and weaknesses. Follow detailed exercise plans provided for each muscle type. Discover new sports and activities that more closely fit a specific body type. People are often dissatisfied with the success of their exercise programs or activities, but they may simply have been the wrong programs for their muscular structure. Exercise for Your Muscle Type eliminates this frustration by showing readers how they are built and by helping them put together an appropriate personalized comprehensive exercise program. With a better understanding of one’s own body, anyone can achieve his or her fitness goals more quickly! |

Exercise and the Ischemic Brain $105.14 Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and the hemiplegic upper extremity is particularly resistant to rehabilitation intervention. Endurance exercise, outside of its beneficial effects on the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems, influences brain remodelling, learning, and memory. In our experiments, we determined the effects of exercise on critical mediators of neuroplasticity (brainderived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), insulin like growth factor (IGFI), synapsinI, phosphorylated cyclic AMP response element binding protein (pCREB) and serum corticosterone) in a rat model of middle cerebral artery stroke. It was clear the intensity and duration of exercise had differential effects on proteins that affect neuroplasticity after stroke. Furthermore, animals receiving running exercise preceding a skilled reaching task recovered better than animals that did not. Endurance exercise appears to have an enhancing effect on learning of a subsequent reaching skill mediated in part by structural changes within the brain. This phenomenon may be beneficial when arranging therapeutic activities during stroke rehabilitation. Bioenergetics Primer for Exercise Science $40.56 Although there are chapters in exercise physiology texts and a few books on the topics of human bioenergetics and energy metabolism, those chapters and books often do not cover the pertinent information in sufficient detail and are generally highly research oriented or outdated. "Bioenergetics Primer for Exercise Science" is an up-to-date text that encompasses all available information regarding human bioenergetics and energy metabolism and brings together diverse issues that are of theoretical interest and practical importance. Written as a primer, this text explains the foundational and critical knowledge and research findings in bioenergetics and the application of those findings. To evaluate research more knowledgeably and decide which techniques best fit their own research, students and professionals will learn about lab- and field-based techniques used to measure energy metabolism, including lipid metabolism. In addition to bioenergetics concepts and research, the text emphasizes the metabolic challenges brought about by obesity and diabetes. A dedicated chapter discusses metabolic impairments associated with both diseases, alterations in metabolism during exercise for affected individuals, and the role of exercise in enhancing energy utilization and improving glucose response and insulin sensitivity. The text also provides a more specific discussion of bioenergetics applied to the subpopulations of children, elderly people, and women. Without weighing down the reader will highly academic and technical jargon, the text explains the science behind energy metabolism in an accessible and inclusive format specifically designed for exercise science students studying areas other than bioenergetics and professionals working in related areas such as health and fitness, nutrition, and weight management. Bioenergetics novices will appreciate the cohesive presentation of information within a four-part structure: -Part I illustrates how carbohydrate, fat, and protein are metabolized and converted into energy for sport and physical activity. It conveys basic but critical information before pursuing more advanced topics in bioenergetics. -Part II presents lab- and field-based techniques for measuring energy metabolism, including a variety of instrumentations and protocols commonly used to assess energy and fuel utilization. Connections to sport and physical activity, including the energy cost of walking, running, cycling, and resistance exercise, are emphasized. Strategies that can be used to enhance energy utilization with special focus on weight management are also introduced. -Part III explores ideas and strategies for enhancing energy production and expenditure. Metabolic adaptations to exercise training are covered (such as changes in cellular function, fuel utilization, and oxygen uptake after aerobic, anaerobic, and resistance training). Special attention is given to obesity and diabetes, primarily the effect of glucose r |

Exercise-induced Acute Renal Failure $99 Acute renal failure induced by rhabdomyolysis after strenuous, prolonged exercise such as marathon running or mountain climbing is a well-known medical phenomenon, but exercise-induced acute renal failure after short-term anaerobic exercise - for instance, short-distance track races - has been recognized only recently. This monograph provides in-depth information on exercise-induced acute renal failure after short-term anaerobic exercise, which causes severe pain in the loin and patchy renal ischemia with no sign of rhabdomyolysis. Half of the patients suffering from this condition experience renal hypouricemia, for which approximately 20% are treated with dialysis. This complete clinical reference book includes characteristics of the disease, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, and corresponding preventive measures. Important information on gene analysis and etiology is also included, creating a valuable resource for nephrologists as well as for emergency physicians and those in the field of sports medicine. |
