Punching Karate

Want to know how you can improve your punching power without having to perform years of hard training? Read on to find out a few hints that you can use to improve your fighting style no matter if you are a martial artist, street fighter, MMA practitioner, or boxer.
If you want to increase the power of your punch, you will need to follow these basic guidelines:
1. The straighter the punch, the more power it will have. If you throw a haymaker or some kind of curved application, you will get a lot less momentum in your punch.
2. Grab your opponent and pull them into your punch. This pulling effect is like getting hit by a freight train, creating twice the force on impact as a normal, non-pulling punch. This is a great technique if you are fighting someone that is bigger than you.
3. Focus on punching all the way through your target, not just hitting your target.
4. Train your fists. You can perform knuckle push-ups, makiwara training (this is a Okinawan striking post that you can build yourself. It callouses the knuckles), and speed training.
Once you have used these techniques to build up your punching technique, you can work on using your hips and different footwork to move yourself into position around your opponent. By just changing a few of your training techniques and focusing on the fundamentals, you can completely evolve the power of your punching to a level where your your opponent will have no idea what hit him.

Excerpt: Karate ) (Japanese pronunciation: , English: ) is a martial art developed in the Ryukyu Islands in what is now Okinawa, Japan. It was developed from indigenous fighting methods called te, literally "hand"; t in Okinawan) and Chinese kenp. Karate is a striking art using punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques such as knife-hands (karate chop). Grappling, locks, restraints, throws, and vital point strikes are taught in some styles. A karate practitioner is called a karateka ). Karate developed in the Ryukyu Kingdom prior to its 19th century annexation by Japan. It was brought to the Japanese mainland in the early 20th century during a time of cultural exchanges between the Japanese and the Ryukyuans. In 1922 the Japanese Ministry of Education invited Gichin Funakoshi to Tokyo to give a karate demonstration. In 1924 Keio University established the first university karate club in Japan and by 1932, major Japanese universities had karate clubs. In this era of escalating Japanese militarism, the name was changed from ("Chinese hand") to ("empty hand") both of which are pronounced karate to indicate that the Japanese wished to develop the combat form in Japanese style. After the second world war, Okinawa became an important United States military site and karate became popular among servicemen stationed there. The martial arts movies of the 1960s and 1970s served to greatly increase its popularity and the word karate began to be used in a generic way to refer to all striking-based Oriental martial arts. Karate schools began appearing across the world, catering to those with casual interest as well as those seeking a deeper study of the art. Punching In $10.99 Curious to know just what happens behind the "employees only" doors of big companies, journalist Alex Frankel embarked on an undercover reporting project to find out how some of America's well-known companies win the hearts and minds of their retail and service employees. Frankel knew the only way to find answers was to go native. During a two-year urban adventure through the world of commerce, Frankel applied for and was hired by a half-dozen companies: he proudly wore the brown uniform of the UPS driver, folded endless stacks of T-shirts at Gap, brewed espressos for the hordes at Starbucks, interviewed (but failed to get hired) at Whole Foods, enrolled in management training at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and sold iPods at the Apple Store. At the heart of Punching In lies Frankel's quest to find out how some of the giants of commerce turn thousands of average job applicants into loyal—even fanatical—workers. How do they identify and recruit workers who will best fit their companies? How do they indoctrinate employees into their corporate cultures and make them perfect messengers of their brands? Along the way Frankel pauses long enough to wonder why he is so often immune to corporate attempts to win employees over. In this lively and entertaining narrative, Frankel takes readers on a personal journey into the land of front-line employees to discover why some workers are so eager to drink the corporate Kool-Aid and which companies know how to serve it up best. |
