First of all you need to consider what mat you have is it an all natural rubber yoga mat or an standard synthetic yoga mat. Is your mat a padded exercise mat with a foam core. Never share your mat

Sharing is the first reason for fungal and bacterial infections. So next time someone asks don't be so nice. And if you yourself get your mats from someone else buy a new one all for yourself. This can reduce the probability of getting a foot infection

Make use of your washing machine

Many people think cleaning yoga mats in a washing machine can damage the mat, this is completely false. You can safely clean a mat in washing machine by using cold water along with a mild detergent and then stop right before the spin cycle takes place in drying stage. After removing from the machine,lay it outside to thoroughly dry the mat.

For cleaning a soiled mat

If your mat has only been slightly soiled and a spin in the washing machine isn't necessary then using a sponge and a mixture of mild detergent with water to create a dilute soapy mixture is all it takes to clean it. Mildly rub down the soiled parts and finally use a sponge dipped in warm water to clear away the foam. Again put it away to dry out completely.

Bing consistent in your cleaning efforts

Being very consistent and planned out is also very important when it comes to keeping your yoga mats cleaned and well maintained. Make sure you clean after every practice session and make sure you clean every week or so, if you haven't been using it so often.
