Finally, the sport of golf and its community has seen some great benefits of strength and power training. With the exposure of strength training on the PGA Tour, many golfers both competitive and recreational have begun to practice some sort of performance training. However, there are still those that shun the idea of lifting weights due to a fear of losing flexibility and altering their technique. As a fitness and sport performance specialist it is hard to convince certain potential clients that strength, power and stability can be achieved without losing flexibility. Weights look scary to them and often they are just not willing to give it a try for fear of killing their game.
Resistance band training is a great way to curb their fear of strength and power training while increasing their golf performance. First off, a resistance band that produces 20-50lbs of resistance is a lot less intimidating than a 20-50lb dumbbell. Also, unlike a dumbbell, a resistance band actually increases the resistance as it stretches. This makes the muscles work harder to produce more force as the band is lengthened. Therefore, when performing a movement such as a downswing, it mimics acceleration through the movement. Being as a golfer wants as much acceleration through the golf ball during the swing, training with a resistance band would train the muscles to accelerate in the same way.
Another great benefit of using resistance bands is that they are completely portable. You can take them anywhere and you can use them almost anywhere. Recreational golfers that travel a lot can stick a couple bands in their suitcase on business trips. You can bring them on vacation to maintain strength and power. You can use them in the office on a lunch break. The possibilities are endless.
Being as there is a constantly changing degree of resistance throughout a movement, resistance bands force a user's nervous system to adjust and adapt to maintain a smooth fluid motion. This ever changing resistance builds and unbelievable amount of coordination and balance. The benefit is seen in whole body movements as well as acute, more targeted movements.
With a proper strength, power and flexibility program designed for golf using resistance bands, a golfer can get great results from performance training. This type of training can result in an increase in drive distance, better touch on the ball during short game and even increased muscle coordination when putting. So whether you are a fitness professional, or you just want to lower your score, research the sport of golf and its movements, even get out and get a lesson from a professional. Break the movements down into parts and create exercises that compliment those movements. Resistance training has proven benefits; it is just a matter of breaking the barrier of fear and applying proper training protocols. Resistance bands are an efficient and effective way to implement training to improve your game.

Resistance $3.95 1944. After the fall of Russia and the failed D-Day landings, a German counterattack lands on British soil. Within a month, half of Britain is occupied. The seat of British government has fled to Worcester, Churchill to Canada. A network of British resistance cells is all that is left to defy the German army. Against this backdrop, Resistance opens with Sarah Lewis, a twenty-six-year-old farmer's wife, waking to find her husband, Tom, has disappeared. She is not alone, as all the other women in the Welsh border valley of Olchon wake to find their husbands gone. With this sudden and unexplained absence, the women regroup as an isolated, all-female community and wait, hoping for news. Later, a German patrol arrives in the valley, the purpose of their mission a mystery. When a severe winter forces the two groups together, a fragile mutual dependency develops. Sarah begins a faltering acquaintance with the patrol's commanding officer, Albrecht Wolfram, and it is to her that he reveals the purpose of the patrol. But as the pressure of the war beyond presses in on this isolated community, this fragile state of harmony is increasingly threatened. Imbued with immense imaginative breadth and confidence, Owen Sheers's debut novel unfolds with the pace and intensity of a thriller. A hymn to the glorious landscape of the Welsh border territories and a portrait of a community under siege, "Resistance" is a first novel of grace and power. |

Civil Resistance and Power Politics $55 This widely-praised book identified peaceful struggle as a key phenomenon in international politics a year before the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt confirmed its central argument. Civil resistance - non-violent action against such challenges as dictatorial rule, racial discrimination and foreign military occupation - is a significant but inadequately understood feature of world politics. Especially through the peaceful revolutions of 1989, and the developments in the Arab worldsince December 2010, it has helped to shape the world we live in.Civil Resistance and Power Politics covers most of the leading cases, including the actions master-minded by Gandhi, the US civil rights struggle in the 1960s, the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, the 'people power' revolt in the Philippines in the 1980s, the campaigns against apartheid in South Africa, the various movements contributing to the collapse of the Soviet Bloc in 1989-91, and, in this century, the 'colour revolutions' in Georgia and Ukraine. The chapters, written byleading experts, are richly descriptive and analytically rigorous. This book addresses the complex interrelationship between civil resistance and other dimensions of power. It explores the question of whether civil resistance should be seen as potentially replacing violence completely, or as a phenomenon that operates in conjunction with, and modification of, power politics. It looks at cases where campaigns were repressed, including China in 1989 and Burma in 2007. It notes that in several instances, including Northern Ireland, Kosovo and, Georgia, civilresistance movements were followed by the outbreak of armed conflict. It also includes a chapter with new material from Russian archives showing how the Soviet leadership responded to civil resistance, and a comprehensive bibliographical essay. Illustrated throughout with a remarkable selection of photographs, this uniquely wide-ranging and path-breaking study is written in an accessible style and is intended for the general reader as well as for students of Modern History, Politics, Sociology, and International Relations. |

Peace, Power and Resistance in Cambodia $138 The political economy of emerging mechanisms of global governance entails, this book argues, the imposition of specific models of conflict resolution in peripheral regions. This has led to international peace initiatives which often lack resonance in the complex of institutions and practices at the centre of long-standing conflicts in these regions. It is at this level that the explanation for the recent failure of many of these peace initiatives can be found. The involvement of the international community in the elections held in Cambodia in 1993 and 1998 serves as a case study. |

The Resistance to Poetry $18 Poems inspire our trust, argues James Longenbach in this bracing work, because they don't necessarily ask to be trusted. Theirs is the language of self-questioning—metaphors that turn against themselves, syntax that moves one way because it threatens to move another. Poems resist themselves more strenuously than they are resisted by the cultures receiving them. But the resistance to poetry is quite specifically the wonder of poetry. Considering a wide array of poets, from Virgil and Milton to Dickinson and Glück, Longenbach suggests that poems convey knowledge only inasmuch as they refuse to be vehicles for the efficient transmission of knowledge. In fact, this self-resistance is the source of the reader's pleasure: we read poetry not to escape difficulty but to embrace it. An astute writer and critic of poems, Longenbach makes his case through a sustained engagement with the language of poetry. Each chapter brings a fresh perspective to a crucial aspect of poetry (line, syntax, figurative language, voice, disjunction) and shows that the power of poetry depends less on meaning than on the way in which it means—on the temporal process we negotiate in the act of reading or writing a poem. Readers and writers who embrace that process, Longenbach asserts, inevitably recoil from the exaggeration of the cultural power of poetry in full awareness that to inflate a poem's claim on our attention is to weaken it. A graceful and skilled study, The Resistance to Poetry honors poetry by allowing it to be what it is. This book arrives at a critical moment—at a time when many people are trying to mold and market poetry into something it is not. |

Trilogy of Resistance $75 With Trilogy of Resistance, the political philosopher Antonio Negri extends his intervention in contemporary politics and culture into a new medium: drama. The three plays collected for the first time in this volume dramatize the central concepts of the innovative and influential thought he has articulated in his best-selling books Empire and Multitude, coauthored with Michael Hardt. In the tradition of Bertolt Brecht and Heiner Mnller, NegriÆs political dramas are designed to provoke debate around the fundamental questions they raise about resistance, violence, and tyranny. In Swarm, the protagonist searches for an effective mode of activism; with the help of a Greek-style chorus, she tries on different roles, from the suicide bomber and party apparatchik to the multitude. The Bent Man, set in fascist Italy, focuses on a woodcutter who resists fascism by bending himself in two and using his own now-twisted body as a weapon against war. In Cithaeron, perhaps the most audacious of the three plays, Negri reworks EuripidesÆs Bacchae to explore the circumstances that would compel a diverse and creative community to withdraw from both the despotic government that constrains it and the traditional family relationships that reinforce that despotism.First published in France in 2009 and featuring an introduction by Negri, Trilogy of Resistance provides a direct and passionate distillation of NegriÆs concepts and offers insights into one of the most important projects in political philosophy currently under way, as well as a timely reminder of the power of theater to effectively dramatize complex and challenging ideas. |

Drama and Resistance $105 Claire Sponsler explores the intertwined histories of bodily subjectivity, commodity culture, and theatricality in late medieval England. In a fascinating consideration of popular drama in the period from 1350 to 1520, she argues that many types of performances during this time represented cultural evasions of the imposition of disciplinary power. |

Gandhi and King: The Power of Nonviolent Resistance $70.65 The lives and work of Mohandis Karamchand Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. have much to teach us about nonviolent resistance to oppression. This book presents a comparative analysis of their legacies that demonstrates how powerful peace and love can be, even in the face of hate-filled oppression, aggression, and violence. No two individuals had a greater impact on the 20th century's monumental struggles for freedom, justice, and peace. Gandhi showed the world that steadfastly and nonviolently adhering to the truth gave the world a practical alternative to the madness of war and violence. King used nonviolence to realize his dream of a beloved community and to beckon his white countrymen to live up to the lofty ideals bequeathed to them by America's founders. The two men came from widely divergent cultural, religious, economic, and political backgrounds and settings, yet they both wielded nonviolent weapons effectively. This comparison not only demonstrates the broad applicability of nonviolent principles; it also highlights the importance of merging high ideals with a practical program that produces positive results in people's lives. |
