The exercise equipment that is known as Elliptical Cross Trainer came into the market place for the first time during the 1990s. This machine works by getting you to walk and run by moving the legs and feet in a pattern that is smooth and horizontal. There are a few of these machines that also encourages people to move bars backwards and forwards and this is done at the same time as they are moving the arms and therefore these machines enable you to have a workout that focuses on the whole full body.

These machines are separated into three primary designs. The most popular design is the rear drive and this design has a wheel that is attached to the bars on the back of the machine. The second design is the design that is known as front drive and this as its name suggests is where the wheel is on the front of the machine. The design known as centre drive is the third design and this is where there is no big wheel located at the front or back and instead a base drives the machine on both sides with small bars attached to bigger bars, which move with the feet. The centre drive machines tend to be considered as a smoother easier machine to use. Some of the machines features stride adjustments that can be changed depending on height.

These machines are mainly worked using the power from the legs. These machines consist of two bars that are parallel and have a foot pedal on each of them. You push with your leg muscles and it moves the wheel that then creates a motion that can be classed as oval. The machines that have arm bars move together with the foot bars and this mimics the motion of your arms whilst you are walking.

There are some cheap versions of this machine that are available and these ones pretty much work when the pedals are pushed forward. It is also possible to purchase some machines that are a bit more extravagant and these ones have built in computers, which are activated by the movement of the pedals.
