Spain vs Netherland Live Streaming Online TV||Can Holland win the World Cup?
It all comes down to this match. Over 200 countries entered qualifying, 32 made it South Africa, and on July 11th, 2010, 2 remain. The 2010 World Cup Final will be the biggest, most watched match in sports. One team will become world champion, a title they will hold for four years. Will we see a final ruled by controversy, as we did in 2006? Will it be a cagey affair, or will we see a back and forth match like the one in 1986, when Argentina beat West Germany 3-2? Here are all of the important details on the World Cup final:
Where: Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa
When: July 11, 2010 at 8:30pm local time (2:30pm EST)
Who: Spain vs Netherland
Can Holland win the World Cup?
Only one team remain undefeated during the entire tournament, the Netherlands. They eased their way through the group phases and then disposed of Slovakia, the mighty Brazil and Uruguay. They have played at a consistently high standard and tempo throughout and have peaked at exactly the right time.
No longer tarred with rumours of in house fighting this squad is united. In Wesley Sneijder they arguably have the player of the tournament and one of the World Cup's leading scorers. He has been fantastic, running games from midfield with his playmaking genius. Plus in Dirk Kuyt, Robin Van Persie and Arjen Robben they have a constant goal threat. They do however still look suspect at the back at times.
DESERVING FINALIST
Spain was one of the favorites coming into this World Cup (pause here to gloat that yours truly picked Spain to make the final). But it wasn't until the second half Wednesday night that the Spaniards really seemed to kick it into high gear.
And what better time to find your groove than four days before the final?
Truth is, Spain deserves to be in the final. It has been the dominant team in Europe for the past few years. And the Netherlands deserves to be there, too, with a 14-0 record through qualifying and this World Cup -- not to mention its wonderfully entertaining Orange Nation of fans. These are, without question, the two best nations never to win a World Cup. It's nice to know that we are guaranteed a new champion Sunday.
Germany should have had a clue that things were not going to go its way because Paul the octopus oracle chose Spain to win. Don't laugh. This is serious stuff. The eight-legged creature, which lives in Germany, correctly predicted the outcome of every Germany match at this World Cup.
The octopus' owner puts out two plexiglass boxes, each with mussels inside. One box is decorated with the German flag, the other with the opponent's flag. Paul climbs into one of the boxes, and in every case the past few weeks, he has climbed into the box of the winner. He predicted Germany would lose to Serbia, beat England and Argentina, and lose to Spain.
Not sure if Paul has a feeling about Sunday's final, but I do. If Spain plays how it played during the second half Wednesday, it will win. This is Spain's time. Underacheivers no more.

The Cup $2.99 “Brilliant. We needed a comic novel about the 2011 Rugby World Cup, and here it is. Like a direct descendant of Vincent O’Sullivan’s 70s satire Miracle, Dan Cleary’s The Cup also has an affectionate and informed crack at rugby, politics and the unholy combination of the two through its central character, Baldy. He has been charged with running the preparations for the Rugby World Cup – and it turns out to be the worst job in New Zealand. Victoria Cartwright is a ratings-hungry TV journalist who gets on his case. It can’t end well, can it? Add in pot-shots at corporate sponsors, GM, the dairy industry and NIMBYs, and you have the comic novel about the 2011 Rugby World Cup we needed.” -Stephen Stratford, author of The NZ Sports Joke Book |

Boxing Is My Sanctuary: A Collection of Essays $39.81 No sport offers more allure and repulsion than the inviting and abrasive world of boxing. Starting on the mean streets of 1950s Chicago, this collection of essays moves into a close reflection of the boxing world up through the glitz of today's boxing circuit. For Ted Sares, boxing is more than a sparring match between two combatants violently punching each another. It is a visceral experience that reaches in all directions, from his childhood memories of visiting the Chicago rings with his father to today's all-out-fight demeanor of Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao. At the same time tender and brutal, triumphant and tragic, in the end these pieces are about the last man standing and the hope for fair judgment between the victor and the defeated. "Boxing Is My Sanctuary" is a collection of essays that explores both sides of a sport that is colored with paradox. Between the violent and affectionate, the barbaric and the civilized, Sares finds a ringside refuge in the midst of the sights, sounds, and smells that define boxing. |

Boxing's Greatest Fighters $14.64 Easily the most enduring of all sports questions is Who was/is the best . . . ? Perhaps in no sport is the question more asked and argued over than in boxing. And in boxing perhaps none is more qualified to answer the question than Bert Randolph Sugar. In Boxing's Greatest Fighters, not only does the former publisher of Ring Magazine tell us who the best fighters were, he lists them in order. Could Sugar Ray Robinson have beaten Muhammad Ali? Could Sugar Ray Leonard have beaten Sonny Liston? The answer, most experts agree, would be no. But what if, as Bert Sugar has done here, one were to take all the boxers and reduce them in the minds eye to the same height, the same weight, and the same ring conditions? The answers would be quite different. And while some fans may express outrage that Rocky Marciano barely makes the top twenty, and Marvin Hagler staggers into the top seventy-five, others will nod eagerly when they read that Harry Greb and Benny Leonard were better than just about anybody. So whether you read Boxing's Greatest Fighters cover to cover, pick your favorites at random, or simply browse through the many rare photographs, at the bell, come out arguing. |
