Kick Training

Our body needs to be taken care of constantly. The older we get the more care it seems to need. So we try to sleep enough, eat healthy, and do some exercise (if we find the time). And we pray that is enough to stay in shape and enjoy a lifelong healthy existence.
Our brain however is something else. It needs a whole different kind of care. Most of all it needs constant challenge. If we do not challenge our brain from day to day, it starts to fall 'asleep' so to speak. And the sleepier our brain is, the sooner we get forgetful, hazy, disoriented etc. as we grow older. We blame that to old age, but we should blame ourselves for not taking care of our brain properly. The thing is, although our brain grows old with us, it can stay as fit as a fiddle our whole life, as long as it gets what it needs.
And the brain needs challenge! The more challenge the better. You can give it challenges in your everyday life, of course but just as your body needs a regular work out one way or another, so does your brain. One of the best ways to do that is through brain training games.
Now here it becomes somewhat tricky. Because you have brain training games and brain training games. There are the ones you can do easily, they are kind of fun to do but they do not challenge your brain as they should do. If you can do those games with your eyes closed, then these games are not for you and you have to move on. Remember, challenge! Work out!
What you need are games that give you a hard time but still are fun to do. The internet is buzzing with websites that provide you with games cut out for you. They sometimes even explain what part of your brain is being trained by the game and what that part is doing for you, day after day. It is not good to focus just on one brain function - like your memory because you feel that should be really trained. Better is to change to all the parts of your brain so your overall brain gets a good kick in the butt. You can compare that to just training your left arm... bit silly, right? So although you can focus on the part you think needs more, you give your whole brain a regular work out. That way, you may grow old, but not because your brain is fading slowly.
Why Brain Training? The brain needs care just like the body. New scientific research shows that we can improve the health and function of our brains with the right mental workouts. In a study funded by the National Institute of Health, scientists found that memory, reasoning and processing speed can be improved by brain training. Moreover, they found that cognitive improvements persisted for at least five years!
