Liuyedao Ancient Chinese Sword

The Liuyedao is another term for Willow Leaf Saber. This weapon is a form of the Dao which was often employed as a sidearm both for Military as well as Calvary and Infantry troops who fought during the time of the Qing and Ming Dynasties. This Battle Weapon has a nice size curve that goes down the lion share of the blade. Although this cuts down on the ability to perform thrusts, it does still have the potential to do serious damage when thrusting an opponent. However, this weapon was much more notable for it's ability to cut and slash opponents.

Piandao Ancient Chinese Sword

The Chinese Backsword of Sabre called the Piandao was employed extensively during the latter part of the Ming Dynasty. This Battle Weapon had a deeply curved blade. The purpose of it was to slash and cut opponents on the battle field. This weapon is very similar to the Scimitar and the Shamshir. Skirmishers used this very uncommon weapon with some type of shield and body armor.

Miao Dao Ancient Chinese Sword

The Miao Dao was a weapon that was made to be held with two hands. It was a type of Dao that was used in the Republican Era. The blade on this weapon was narrower than most blades. It had a long hilt and could be as long as 1.2 meters in length. Another name for this weapon was the "Sprout Saber". The connection from which this name originated was referring to a newly sprouted plant. This weapon isn't practiced in most Martial Arts Schools, however, a few schools do practice with this sword.

Some people incorrectly believe that the Miao Dao was used to train Chinese Military Troops at the Central Military Academy in Nanjing. However the weapon that did actually train these troops was a European Saber. In the popular game series "Dynasty Warriors", the Miao Dao was the primary weapon they used for the character Xiahou Dun. However in Dynasty Warriors 6, this weapon was substituted with a large mace.
