Automated testing tools are designed to make life easier for software developers and distributors and those who implement, execute, and interpret the results of a certain testing procedure. However, as with all other tools, there must first be certain procedures to be complied with. In short, the system must first be prepared in order for the testing program to function properly. Thus, in order to be able to use the Flex Automated Testing tool, the Flex Builder 3 must first be installed. The installer for this can be downloaded from the Internet if you know where to search for it. This is because you cannot use the testing tool with just the Flex 3 SDK application.

The SWC files that will be needed in using the tool are installed automatically and by default when you install the Flex Builder 3. You can easily find these files in the directory where the other SWC files may be found. Once the builder application has been successfully and properly installed, the automated tool may then be installed without any other procedure. It is, however, a requirement that the user have more than basic knowledge of html and programming languages in order to properly set up and make use of the software.

Once the Flex tool has been installed, you may already run the program. For this purpose, it is recommended that a run-time automated testing setting be used. This can be done by first opening a command prompt then navigating to the directory with the following basis: flex_builder_root/sdks/3.0.0/templates/automation-runtimeloading-files. Once you have successfully navigated, you must now execute or enable the build.bat file. You will notice that when you execute this file, the runtimeloading.mxml file will be compiled into a SWF file. After this action, you must now copy the runtimeloading.swf and runtimeloading.html files, the former being the compiled version of the .mxml file, and paste them into your web server. You may also want to copy the program that you want to use for such purposes to this server. Note also that the application will not need to be compiled with the automation libraries. Once this has been done, you may now request for the runtimeloading.html file and configure your program as the automationswfurl query string parameter.

The Flex tool will prove to be a reliable assistant in order to determine whether or not a particular system or web application is performing up to standard expectations. This will also allow the user to determine if there are problems or bugs that need to be repaired or rewritten. All these will have dealing with how the tested application will be functioning in the future.
