The ideal Everlast heavy bag
Heavy bag workouts are a fun and effective way of helping us get into shape quickly. However, to really maximise the results, we need to be sure to purchase the correct heavy bag. Everlast heavy bags are generally an ideal bet for beginners; due to the fact that Everlast have been designing boxing equipment for almost 100 years.
There are a healthy variety of heavy bag sizes that can vary from 50lbs to 150lbs. Bags over 100lbs are best for those of us who want to throw big punches on our Everlast heavy bag, the only danger of the heavier bags is that they can apply a lot of pressure on your hands and wrists every time you throw a punch, so it is vital that you use boxing wraps underneath your boxing gloves. If you purchase a lighter heavy bag there'll be less chance of you injuring yourself during your workout, although the problem with the lighter heavy bags is that they tend to swing around a lot more every time you throw a punch.
Do not let this information confuse you further as I am going to explain how to benefit from the different size bags. The main thing you need to do is discover your motive for wanting to start a heavy bag workout, the main reasons are usually to:
Tone up
Lose weight
Gain strength
Reduce stress
Build muscle
General fitness
For the many of us who want to start a heavy bag workout to reduce stress, build muscle or gain strength we'll most likely benefit greatly from a heavier heavy bag, as we'll need to throw punches with a lot more force to achieve the results we need. The reason for this is that the heavier bags will not swing around as much, which will allow us to throw a number of punches at the heavy bag without having to realign it.
Conversely, if we're looking to lose weight, tone-up or build stamina, then we'll most likely benefit from a 70lb Everlast heavy bag. There are two reasons for this, 1) You will not be looking to hit the bag too hard in your training sessions, and 2) When the bag swings you can take this to your benefit to work your entire body, due to the fact that many boxers use this to work on their body movement as well as their punches by bobbing and weaving to avoid the bag as it swings their way.
These are the main things you'll need to take into consideration when purchasing your Everlast Heavy bag. However, I must warn be sure to always use boxing wraps when working on the heavier heavy bags, as they can tend to apply a lot of pressure on your hands and wrists!
