Grappling Mma Bjj

There are numerous techniques in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. However, there are certain positions in BJJ that are superior to others.

First of all, if you are a striker and your opponent is a grappler, being on the ground, even on top, is not to your advantage. Conversely, if you are a grappler and your opponent is a striker, typically being on the ground, even if your are on your back, could be to your advantage.

If you have similar grappling skills as your opponent, then ideally you want to be on top. There are varying degrees of position that are better than others. For example, if your are on top but in your opponents guard, that is the worst place to be if your are on top. You want to try and improve your position and pass your opponents guard and move into side control, mount or take their back.

On the other hand if you are on your back and your opponent is on top, you want them in your guard. You do not want them in side control, mount or taking your back.

If your submissions are good from the guard then go for it, but it could be risky. I personally try to reverse my opponent and get them on their back pass guard and then attack.

If you are on top, your chances of a submission are better if you are in side control, mount or taking the back. Therefore, you should be thinking guard pass first if you are in guard.

Remember, try to get on top, pass the guard into side control, mount or take the back. Then go for a submission.
