Gel Max

A Laptop cooler or chilling pad is a device that assists in dissipating heat generated by a laptop during its normal operations. A cooler is usually used when the laptop fan is not capable of adequately cooling the laptop. The cooling process may be active or inactive and the cooler normally rests underneath the laptop.

Active coolers shift air or liquid to move heat away from the laptop, while inactive coolers depend on thermally conductive resources for increasing inactive airflow. Active coolers either suck heat from underneath the laptop or drive heat away from by blowing cool air towards the base of the laptop. The latter technique typically comprises of using fans to increase the airflow underneath the laptop, thereby dissipating the heat. The fan velocity can be changed manually or automatically on some model, while it remains constant on others.

An instance of an inactive cooling technique is the Heat Shift Technology. The Heat Shift method uses a special crystalline complex to cool the laptop. This one of its kind crystalline compound absorbs the surplus heat, removing it from the base of laptop computer. The crystalline compound melts to from a gel like material as it sucks the heat. When the laptop is not warm or when it is not being used, the gel like substance reverts itself back into a solid crystal. The Heat Shift method has proven performances to chill laptops by more than 9 degrees Fahrenheit.

Although many cooler pads use power adapters to run, most of these pads run on power drawn through one of the laptop's USB ports. Numerous cooler pads therefore provide a built-in USB hub. One important point worth mentioning is that heat generated from the laptop cooler itself, connected through the USB port, is very negligible and restricted to approximately 2.5 watts.
