Key uses for foam in DIY applications

Polyester foam sheets on the other hand act as excellent insulators given their extremely high level of heat-resistance. Easy to fit to walls or to cut to size for more awkward areas around the house, polyester foam sheets make for a truly viable alternative to much more difficult to apply insulation spray foams or professionally installed cavity wall insulation.

When it comes to DIY tools, foam makes an appearance in everything from sponges to ink rollers to secure grips fitted on power tools.

Open cell foams, which permit the quick and easy flow of air or liquids from one air pocket, or ‘cell', to another, are used, for example, in sponges and painting equipment. Such open cell items can absorb large quantities of paint or cleaning fluids. These absorbed liquids can then be released under steadily controlled pressure.
