Series 6 & 7 Samsung: New HD 1080p LCD TVs
This is what might be called “HDTV input range” presented by Samsung at CES. Warning, this is not a personal attack, guys! We have here the 6 Series, which offers TV 19”to 55”, and the Series 7 which is composed of TVs 40”to 52 “. Anyway, our TV is equipped with 120Hz Motion plus (Series 6) and 240Hz (Series 7), Yahhoo! Widget Engine @ Internet TV …Although the performances seem more attractive on the Series 7, I more likely to favor the 6 Series for its Black / Bordeaux.
LAS VEGAS, January 7, 2009 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc.., A market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, today unveiled its next-generation LCD HDTV lineup with CCFL backlighting. The LCD HDTV line-up is led by the 7 Series, which is the company’s first CCFL-backlit LCD TV with a 240Hz refresh rate. Samsung’s line of LCD HDTVs will be on display at Booth # 11033 during the International Consumer Electronics Show, which will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 8 -11, 2009.
“We are proud and excited to deliver consumers Samsung’s first 240Hz CCFL-backlit LCD HDTV to consumers,” said Jonas Tanenbaum, Vice President of LCD HDTV Marketing at Samsung Electronics America Inc. “Samsung continues to push the envelope in terms of technology and design innovation, and consumers will experience even better clarity, more vibrant colors and unprecedented networking capabilities available on Samsung’s newest line-up of LCDs.”
The Series 7 features a fast 240Hz refresh rate, a speed twice that of current 120Hz sets, and quadruple that of standard HDTVs. The refresh rate and a faster panel work together with Samsung’s proprietary Auto Motion Plus 240Hz frame interpolation ™ technology, to eliminate motion blur and judder with fast-action material, for motion stunning detail.
Both the Series 7 and Series 6 650 (32-inch and larger) LCD HDTVs impress improved with Samsung’s Ultra Clear panel, a polarizer that reflects room light to produce deeper, darker black tones and bolder colors. By enhancing the performance of the new polarizer, the reflection rate is decreased significantly from previous versions, making even darker blacks, regardless of the ambient lighting conditions in the room. Both series also features Samsung’s picture adaptive contrast setting, called “Natural” mode, which combines the advantage brightness of LCD displays and the cinema-like viewing experience of plasma displays. The result is a new level of richness video perfect for viewing movies.
Additionally, both the Series 7 and 6 feature low power consumption, thus saving energy and money for the consumer. They meet the more stringent Energy Star ® v3.0 efficiency guidelines.
Recognizing the need for HDTV to not only be technologically advanced, but also aesthetically pleasing, all the HDTVs feature Samsung’s new Touch of Color ™ (ToC ™) design. The unique ToC ™ frame is produced by using dual-injection molding technology to coat a luxuriously translucent surface over the chassis.

Subjects of Experience $194.36 In this innovative study E.J. Lowe demonstrates the inadequacy of physicalism, even in its mildest, nonreductionist guises, as a basis for a scientifically and philosophically acceptable account of human beings as subjects of experience, thought and action. He shows how an attribution of independent causal powers to the mental states of human subjects is perfectly consistent with a thoroughly natural world view, and examines the role that conscious mental states play in the human subjects exercise of its most central capacities for perception, action, thought and selfknowledge. Fluxus Experience $32.95 In this groundbreaking work of incisive scholarship and analysis, Hannah Higgins explores the influential art movement Fluxus. Daring, disparate, contentiousFluxus artists worked with minimal and prosaic materials now familiar in post-World War II art. Higgins describes the experience of Fluxus for viewers, even experiences resembling sensory assaults, as affirming transactions between self and world. Fluxus began in the 1950s with artists from around the world who favored no single style or medium but displayed an inclination to experiment. Two formats are unique to Fluxus: a type of performance art called the Event, and the Fluxkit multiple, a collection of everyday objects or inexpensive printed cards collected in a box that viewers explore privately. Higgins examines these two setups to bring to life the Fluxus experience, how it works, and how and why it's important. She does so by moving out from the art itself in what she describes as a series of concentric circles: to the artists who create Fluxus, to the creative movements related to Fluxus (and critics' and curators' perceptions and reception of them), to the lessons of Fluxus art for pedagogy in general. Although it was commonly associated with political and cultural activism in the 1960s, Fluxus struggled against being pigeonholed in these too-prescriptive and narrow terms. Higgins, the daughter of the Fluxus artists Alison Knowles and Dick Higgins, makes the most of her personal connection to the movement by sharing her firsthand experience, bringing an astounding immediacy to her writing and a palpable commitment to shedding light on what Fluxus is and why it matters. |

Exploring Inner Experience $158 Written for the psychologist, philosopher, and layperson interested in consciousness, Exploring Inner Experience provides a comprehensive introduction to the Descriptive Experience Sampling (DES) method for obtaining accurate reports of inner experience. DES uses a beeper to cue participants to pay attention to their experience at precisely defined moments; participants are then interviewed to obtain high-fidelity accounts of their experience at those moments. Exploring Inner Experience shows (a) how DES uncovers previously unknown details of inner experience; (b) how the implications of this method affect our understanding of inner experience and the human condition more generally; (c) how DES avoids the traps that destroyed the introspections of the previous century; (d) why DES reports of inner experience should be considered reliable and valid; and (e) how to use the DES method. This book will be basic reading for all psychologists, philosophers, and students interested in consciousness, as well as anyone who is seriously concerned with understanding the human condition.(Series B) |

Religious Experience Reconsidered $22.95 The essence of religion was once widely thought to be a unique form of experience that could not be explained in neurological, psychological, or sociological terms. In recent decades scholars have questioned the privileging of the idea of religious experience in the study of religion, an approach that effectively isolated the study of religion from the social and natural sciences. Religious Experience Reconsidered lays out a framework for research into religious phenomena that reclaims experience as a central concept while bridging the divide between religious studies and the sciences. Ann Taves shifts the focus from "religious experience," conceived as a fixed and stable thing, to an examination of the processes by which people attribute meaning to their experiences. She proposes a new approach that unites the study of religion with fields as diverse as neuroscience, anthropology, sociology, and psychology to better understand how these processes are incorporated into the broader cultural formations we think of as religious or spiritual. Taves addresses a series of key questions: how can we set up studies without obscuring contestations over meaning and value? What is the relationship between experience and consciousness? How can research into consciousness help us access and interpret the experiences of others? Why do people individually or collectively explain their experiences in religious terms? How can we set up studies that allow us to compare experiences across times and cultures? Religious Experience Reconsidered demonstrates how methods from the sciences can be combined with those from the humanities to advance a naturalistic understanding of the experiences that people deem religious. |

American Experience: Nixon - $19.99 Part of the American Experience series on the presidents, this three-hour documentary examines the quest, triumph, fall, and legacy of one of America's most fascinating and controversial presidents. From his modest beginnings among the lemon groves in Yorba Linda, CA, to his taking on the highest position in the nation, the story of Richard Milhous Nixon is characterized by contradiction. A staunch anti-communist, Nixon opened up relations with China and the Soviet Union and took steps to end the conflict in Vietnam. American Experience describes how Nixon promoted family values and how he used his poker earnings to finance his first political campaign. From congressman to senator to vice president under Eisenhower, a man uncomfortable in his own skin, Nixon was nonetheless a tireless campaigner. The program details the "Pink Lady" campaign, the "Checkers" speech, and the humiliation of Watergate. ~ Brooke Hodess, Rovi |

Individual Differences in Conscious Experience $120 Individual Differences in Conscious Experience is intended for readers with philosophical, psychological, or clinical interests in subjective experience. It addresses some difficult but important issues in the study of consciousness, subconsciousness, and self-consciousness. The book’s fourteen chapters are written by renowned, pioneering researchers who, collectively, have published more than fifty books and more than one thousand journal articles. The editors’ introductory chapter frames the book’s subtext: that mind-brain theories embodying the constraints of individual differences in subjective experience should be given greater credence than nomothetic theories ignoring those constraints. The next five chapters describe research and theory pertaining to individual differences in conscious sensations — specifically, individual differences in pain perception, phantom limbs, gustatory sensations, and mental imagery. Then, two succeeding chapters focus on individual differences in subconsciousness. The final six chapters address individual differences in altered states of self-consciousness — dreams, hypnotic phenomena, and various clinical syndromes. (Series B) |
