Exercise for Pregnancy - Why This is Recommended!
Exercise for pregnancy comes highly recommended for most expectant moms. There are those who are obviously advised not to due to health complications. But for those who are enjoying health during pregnancy, this can be further enhanced by regular exercise and physical activities. This is not only good for the health of expectant mom, but also for their emotional and social well-being. The exercise for pregnancy that are recommended include swimming, dancing, walking, yoga, cycling, stretching and any exercise that involves work on the pelvic part of the body.
Firstly, before you choose your exercise for pregnancy, you should see your physiotherapist or doctor to ensure this activity will not be harmful to either yourself or your unborn child. While exercising is encouraged, some programs in some circumstances can be detrimental to both the mother and the unborn child.
There are numerous advantages to physical activity and exercises during pregnancy. It offers both emotional and physical growth and in the end the mother feels great about herself and her pregnancy. Specifically, some of the documented benefits include;
Weight management
Resistance of weariness that is common in pregnant women
Stronger muscles as you prepare for birth
Stress relief
Improved body posture especially deep into the pregnancy
Faster healing after birth
Emotional benefits
As mentioned, it is imperative that you discuss your plan with your physiotherapist and gynecologist before settling on your exercise for pregnancy. Medical professionals will advise a 30 to 45 minutes moderate to intense physical activity for upto 5 days a week. At the end of the pregnancy, it is recommended that at least three days a week of intense exercise is done. However, to maintain the best health during pregnancy, do not force yourself to do the exercises; rather let your body guide you whilst taking professional health care.
It is no secret that most women feel fat and out of shape because of being pregnant. And this really is unfortunate, because it is possible to tone down your weight and look and feel great throughout your pregnancy. It is not a given fact that every woman has to grow fat during the nine months of pregnancy. This should be a time when the expectant mother enjoys herself, while celebrating her womanhood.
There are products in the market that offer great guidance on how to exercise for pregnancy with great results. These are programs designed and approved specifically for during and after pregnancy, helping you get back to your best self in good time. The understanding is that people who look grumpy feel grumpy and act grumpy.
A woman's period of pregnancy is one that is hugely controlled by emotions as hormonal changes occur in the body. These internal bodily changes bring about external cravings that in a large way go against your nutritional plans. To ensure you do your exercising right and to ensure you keep the best health during pregnancy, you need to learn how to control the cravings and indulgencies that are bound to occur. Often women find it difficult to deny these cravings and continually indulge in whatever they want.
These cravings are actually a big, if not the biggest, threat to your health during pregnancy and it is really necessary to learn how to contain them. These pregnancy exercise kits that have been mentioned, do offer great advice on how you can safely and effectively exercise for pregnancy and can give many helpful hints to assist throughout pregnancy and recovery.

Davina - Before And After Pregnancy (DVD) $15.43 Being the mother of three, no one know how harder it is to maintain a figure than TV personality Davina McCall. Ably assisted by her personal trainer, Davina presents an effective programme that enables the use of exercise during pregnancy and helps you get back into shape after childbirth. As a Mum of 3 children, I know how hard it is to keep up your fitness while you are pregnant and to get back into shape after having a baby. So with the help of Jackie, my personal trainer, we have put together a gentle but effective exercise routine especially for use during pregnancy, followed by another specially devised routine for you to do from 6 weeks after the birth which focuses on getting your pre-baby body back. Each routine includes a warm up, some low impact aerobics and lots of great toning exercises especially for those all important pelvic floors (which I am exercising while I write this!) and finishes with a really good stretch and relaxation section. These routines are exactly the same ones I`ve been doing and they have worked for me. Just remember to be sure to always listen to Jackie`s instructions carefully when you`re doing the routines and listen to your own body - take a break if you need to. Don`t worry if it takes a little time to get your shape back, after all, you`ve just had a baby. And most importantly - enjoy being a new Mum! |

However, this needs to be within the realms of safe practice. The study on which this book is based is derived from the author's work as a midwife with a special interest in exercise. The main aims of the study were to investigate the effects of undertaking a regular exercise programme during and following pregnancy on psychological well-being, pregnancy and birth outcomes. Data were collected at three time points during and following pregnancy using a variety of outcome measures and were analysed using appropriate statistical testing. Conclusions were drawn indicating that women who participated in regular physical activity tended to have protection against reduction of psychological well-being as measured by a variety of psychological constructs. |
