What is it about Polar's S625X heart rate monitor that makes it so impressive? A significant number of reviewers have raved about it. One has proclaimed that you will not find a better heart rate monitor anywhere. Another compared it to a slam dunk in basketball - that is, as spectacular as it gets.

Probably the key feature of the device is the manner in which it processes large amounts of detailed information in real time, as you are engaged in your work-out, and presents it to you in an easily understood format.

Thus, it can display your heart beat as beats per minute or as a percentage of your maximum or average heart rate. It can also send exercise data wirelessly to a computer via an infrared connection, and it records a complete file and five summary files of all your exercises.

In addition, it can predict your maximal oxygen uptake and it displays your target heart rate zone with audible and visual alarms.

One of the best features is that it provides a sensor to mount in your shoe, and this continually computes and relays - with great accuracy - your speed and distance covered. This is different from a pedometer, which does little more than count your steps.

In addition, Polar's impressive technology means that the monitor can be used while running under thick trees, between tall buildings or while on a treadmill, without interference. This places it in start contrast with GPS devices, which often fall down here.

But of course such features come at a price. It is not cheap. You will find plenty of cheaper heart rate monitors that work extremely well, although without all the features of the S625X. But if you are looking for what is certainly one of the best monitors, and can pay the price, then you will surely be very happy with the S625X.
