Missoula Chiropractor Teaches You How to Implement the Paleo Diet
The Paleo Diet is quickly gaining popularity as CrossFit gyms pop up across the nation. The founder of CrossFit, Coach Greg Glassman, encourages the athletes to follow a Paleolithic diet because it helps improve athletic performance, endurance, and overall health and wellness. The Paleo Diet is a hunter-gatherer focused way of eating and is based upon the work of Dr. Loren Cordain. Dr Cordain published "The Paleo Diet" available in major bookstores and online. In this particular how-to article we will summarize five of the basic and guiding principles of a Paleolithic Diet.
1. Eat a variety of lean protein, unlimited green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little to no starch or salt, and zero sugar.
2. Drink a minimum of half your weight in water per day. Ideally one quart per 50lbs of bodyweight plus a quart of water per 30 minutes of exercise. For a 150 lb athlete exercising 30 minutes/day this would be one gallon of pure water. Water should be filtered and people should be sure to avoid drinking tap water.
3. Eat between one and three "open" meals per week. Open meals should be within reason in terms of caloric consumption but can include any of your favorite foods. Open meals will actually help you to stick with your diet and make the Paleo way of life easier to follow.
4. Write down everything that you eat. Research has proven that people who write down what they eat lose more weight faster than those who do not, even without changing what they eat.
5. Tell a friend about The Paleo diet. People who participate in support groups are much more likely to be successful in achieving their goals.
