One of the benefits of working out at home is the privacy. You can look ridiculous and insane when you are working out at home without the unnecessary stares and maybe some chuckles from other people. One workout that is great to do at home is shadow boxing. Instead of boxing your shadow, you can use a closet or bathroom mirror. You can call it mirror boxing. Boxers are noted for shadow boxing. They can go over their jabs, hooks, upper cuts, and other punches while they shadow box. They will burn a lot of calories doing their shadow boxing. You can also reap the same benefit- even more because you can add kicks to your boxing routines.
As with any workouts, there are some safety precautions. One of them is to never snap your elbows or knees all the way. You want to keep your body tight including your arms and legs. Also, in order to get the most out of these shadow boxing routines, you want to use your core and hips in all your punches and kicks. When you do a hook punch, you want to rotate your hips and twist your feet to get an effective workout. You want to punch and kick using your core and body. You can get some ideas on what to place on your routines by checking out the P90x Kempo DVD (with Tony Horton) or the Abjam DVD (with Chalene Johnson). They have good ideas on punches and kicks to do. You can even do their DVDs to get an idea. Make sure you workout both hands and legs. For example, if you do 20 jabs with your left arm, then you should do 20 jabs with your right arm. Some punches you can use for your shadow boxing routine include jabs, hooks, crosses, and upper cuts. Some kicks you can use for your shadow boxing include front kicks, back kicks, side kicks, and knee kicks. You can also combine some of the kicks with your punches.
Try shadow boxing when you need a quick workout. Get a timer and try it for 15 minutes or so. You will get a great workout. It takes a lot of energy to throw consecutive punches and kicks. This means you will burn calories. You can also increase your tempo on your punches and kicks to add intensity to your workout. One of my favorite ways to do this shadow boxing routine is to use boxing gloves as though I am boxing. You can use very light weights also. When you get too tired, you can put down the gloves or weights. Shadow boxing is a great workout that you can do anywhere.
