Tiger Balm: to end the rumors
The Tiger Balm or the Chinese balm was born in Singapore in 1926 after the discovery of a Chinese formula use during centuries against the pain. It was selling by the Aw Boon Shaw under the name of Tiger Balm (balsamo de tigre) in white and red.
What is it made?
The true Tiger Balm is made with a mix of camphor (between 17 and 25%), menthol (8% to 12%), cajuput oil (6 to 8%), mint (8 to 10%), cloves (1 to 2%). It use paraffine for fix the ointment (40 to 42% of the product).
How to choose it ?
Presentations : the balm exist in glass jar, metallic box, in oil and in stick. There is no difference in the product, everything is a question of utilization.
Prices : they change. You can count between 6 and 9€ for one jar, 8 to 12€ for oil and 7 to 9€ for a stick.
Origins : it is better to focus on the origin of Singapore or Thailand because there are copies of poor quality and an ointment from the Maghreb, whose formula is completely different.
Red or white?
- The white will be used for nasal congestion, sinusitis, rhinitis, stiff neck, headaches.
- The red will be more advisable for inflammation, muscle and bone and joint pain as well as back pain and lumbar weaknesses.
How to use?
Tiger Balm is used only outpatient treatment. It is very effective in treating:
