The Kusarigama also known as the Japanese Sickle Weapon is made with a sickle attached to a metal chain. At the end of the sickle and metal chain is a heavy iron weight.
In Japanese the word "Kama" stands for sickle that is on a metal chain and "manriki" means with a heavy weight at the very end.
If one were to use the Kusarigama, one would swing the weighted chain above the head in a circle and then lash it forward to grab the target's (other person) weapon or to wrap the person's legs and/or arms up. Once the person is trapped, the deadly sickle is used on the target.
Another way the Kusarigama is used is to spin the weighted ball and chain and hit him or her with it; thus causing severe injury or even death.
The chain on the Kusarigama is very helpful during fights such as if the weapon is dropped, the chain may be easy to grab and retrieve the weapon.
In the twelfth to seventeenth century many schools in Japan taught how to use the Kusarigama.
Many people believe that the Kusarigama was used by ninjas. Today many televisions shows and video games use the Japanese sickle weapon.
In the past Kusarigama has shown to be a good match against spears and swords. A famous teacher, Yamada Shinryukan, from the seventeenth century killed many men with his Japanese sickle weapon. The swords held by the other men were no match for his ability to use the Kusarigama. Finally, Mr. Yamada Shinryukan was brought to his death when he was drawn to a bamboo grove. The bamboo groves made it impossible for Yamada Shinryukan to swing the chain on the Japanese sickle weapon. Araki Mataemon who brought Yamada Shinryukan to this terrain was unable to be brought to his death as he was able to hold and keep his sword. Finally Mr. Shinryukan was brought to his death.
You may find homemade Japanese sickle weapons to purchase. You will want one that is made of the highest quality with genuine leather and ebony wood. A blade that is 4 mm thick is another excellent quality. You can choose from different lengths of blades as well as lengths of the chain.

The Arts As a Weapon of War (Paperback) $74.38 In 1834, Lord Melbourne spoke the words that epitomized the British government`s attitude towards its own involvement in the arts: "God help the minister that meddles with Art." One hundred years later, however, with the onset of World War II, that attitude changed dramatically when "cultural policy" became a key element of the domestic front. The Arts as a Weapon of War traces the evolution of this policy from the creation of the Committee for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts, in 1939, to the drafting of the Arts Council`s constitution in 1945. From the improvement of the National Gallery to Myra Hess`s legendary concerts during the blitz, J rn Weing rtner provides a fascinating account of the powerful policy shift that laid the foundations for the modern relationship between the government and the arts. |

The Weapon $6.99 A deadly new weapon hits the international arms market---and the only way to preserve the balance of power in the Mideast is to hijack the Iranian sub that carries it. United States Navy Commander and Medal of Honor winner Dan Lenson has been handed another outside-the-box assignment. TAG Charlie, an elite team of active-duty sailors, SEALs, and civilian analysts, is tasked to investigate and defuse emerging naval threats around the globe. When the Skhval-K---an unstoppable rocket torpedo designed to destroy U.S. aircraft carriers---is demonstrated at a Moscow arms show, Dan tries to buy one so that the U.S. Navy can build countermeasures. But he’s lucky to escape with his life when he’s set up by Russia’s new counterespionage service. When the Russians sell the new weapon to Iran and China instead, Dan decides that if he can’t buy it, he’ll steal it. But when a daring nighttime penetration of Iran’s largest naval base goes wrong too, Dan finds himself captaining a submarine he barely knows how to submerge, pursued by Iranian destroyers and sub-hunting aircraft through the shallow, hazardous Persian Gulf. Authentic action and daring espionage combine in a timely thriller set in a hair-trigger military environment. |
