Houses, either newly built or old surely have an attic. The attic is that one room in the house where you get to store things. This is the room where you hide boxes and boxes of memories, old decorations, and even old furniture. You hardly visit this room and the only time you get inside this room is when you are putting away something or when you are getting something out. Since the attic does not get a lot of attention, you are probably not aware of what is happening inside this room.
During the year, the temperatures inside the attic radically changes and because this is usually located on the highest part of the house chances are it traps that hot air inside. This trap air can result to high temperatures inside the house during the summer season, which then forces you to keep the AC unit on longer than usual. Keeping the AC unit on is one great way to jack up your electricity bill.
To solve this gnawing problem about temperature fluctuations in your attic, you may need to install an attic fan. If you have an existing attic fan but is busted then you will have to replace it. An attic fan can help dissipate the heat that is building up inside the attic thus cooling it down. Therefore, you no longer have to keep your AC unit running during summer because it is no longer twice as hot.
However, before you rush in the installation of your attic fan it is important that you check the state building codes first. This will keep you from undergoing unnecessary hassles simply because you fail to read the codes and has done something that is not recommended or not allowed.
Another option that you can choose in case you want to have an attic fan installed is hiring a licensed contractor. By hiring a contractor you no longer have to worry about construction codes because the contractor knows what are the conditions stipulated in these codes and regulations thus he will be installing your attic fan in accordance to what is stated in the construction codes.
