Like Roberto Clemente (baseball player from Puerto Rico) and Maria Hortencia Marcari (basketball player from Brazil), he is an icon in the Latin American continent.

2004: The Mexican delegation participated in the 2004 Olympic Games held in Athens, Greece, and won 4 medals in such events as track and field, taekwondo and cycling.
